TROY, N.Y. » Taking a look around Section II high school sports, we key in on golf sections for the girls and boys. There was also a lot of revving up in soccer, field hockey, and volleyball action. GIRLS GOLF Wednesday marked the Team Championship and Round 1 of the Individual Championship and State Qualifier.

The Class A Round 1 Sectionals will be on Thursday, Oct. 12, at the Fairways of Halfmoon. Round 2 will be on Tuesday, Oct. 17, with the third and final round on Wednesday, Oct. 18, both at The Fairways of Halfmoon.

SHAKER 1, AVERILL PARK 1: Shaker and Averill Park battled to a 1-1 draw. Shaker’s goal came in the first half when Imran Shukralla scored from a loose ball in the box that was sent in by Connor Hughes. Liam Fitch leveled the score in the second half for Averill Park when he scored from a long-range shot. The Warriors sat deep and absorbed pressure for most of the game, and the Blue Bison struggled to connect the passes through the defense. Much of the game was played in an even midfield battle.
TROY 2, BALLSTON SPA 6: On a crisp fall day at Ballston Spa High School, the Scotties hosted the Troy Flying Horses. Both teams came out swinging and both scored in the first minute of play. Jacob Nagengast scored for the Scotties on a through ball from Max Lavoie. Troy answered right away with a goal by Jakub Kaczmar. Ballston Spa pulled away late in the first half with goals from Owen Ripple, Casey Clarke, and Devon Duggan to finish the half with a 4-1 lead. The Scotties would get two more goals in the second half, one from Cole DiNuzzo and an own goal. Dawson Fera scored late in the second half for Troy, for a final score of 6-2. The Scotties’ assists came from Nagengast, Josiah Harmon, Matt Cook and Lavoie, who had two.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
BALLSTON SPA 3, TROY 0: Ballston Spa swept Troy in a Suburban Council match-up, (13-25, 17-25, 19-25). Top players for the Scotties in victory included Kaleigh Capasso with 11 service points, four aces, and eight kills, Avery Santoro registered 20 service points, 17 assists, and seven aces, and Madelyn Perrone chipped in nine kills and six digs. Starring for the Flying Horses in the losing effort was Akila Walker with 10 service points, four aces, three kills, one block, and one dig, Alivia Reo totaled 10 service points, one ace, and two digs, Ava Reo added four kills and two digs.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
COLUMBIA 3, COLONIE 2: Columbia edged Colonie in five sets, (25-23, 25-20, 25-13, 25-19, 17-15). Columbia improved to 9-3, while Colonie dropped to 7-5. In the spotlight for the Blue Devils were Ethan King with 31 assists, three kills, and four digs, Anthony McLaughlin -had14 kills, nine digs, and two blocks, Cole Durivage registered 13 kills and eight digs, and Brendan Kurimsky added 10 kills and 13 digs.
FIELD HOCKEY
HOOSICK FALLS 8, SALEM-CAMBRIDGE 0: Hoosick Falls blanked Salem-Cambridge 8-0. Tatum Hicky potted a pair and chipped in three helpers. Brooke Tonnenson and MacKenna Roberson each posted a goal and an assist. Kelly Hathaway and Gwyn Vincent also tallied. Bell Stefanovich posted the shutout. Brailyn Wright made 24 saves in a losing effort. Hoosick Falls improved to 9-0 in league play and 14-0 overall, while Salem-Cambridge dropped to (4-7, 5-11).
