Lansingburgh appoints McGrouty as new assistant superintendent
TROY, N.Y. » The Lansingburgh Central School District appointed Rebecca McGrouty as assistant superintendent of school improvement during a special meeting of the board of education on Feb. 10.
McGrouty was already a longtime member of the Lansingburgh administrative staff, having served five years as principal of Rensselaer Park Elementary and two years as assistant principal of Lansingburgh High School before that.
Prior to her roles in Lansingburgh, McGrouty taught elementary school in the Troy City School District.
In her new role, McGrouty will manage a number of district-wide responsibilities including overseeing curriculum, coordination of professional staff development, grant management and supporting teaching staff in classroom instruction.
“Transitioning to the district level has always been a goal of mine,” said McGrouty when asked about the decision to switch from individual school building administration to district administration.
“I knew early on I wanted to end up in a role where I could not only work directly with curriculum development but also help a larger number of teachers than I could as an individual school building administrator,” McGrouty continued.
The new role gives McGrouty a unique role and set of responsibilities within the district that she’s looking forward to.
“I’m excited that I’ll be collaborating more closely with Dr. Abitabile” – Lansingburgh’s Superintendent of Schools since last November – “and helping teachers become more innovative educators, but also that I’ll still spend time in the classrooms with our students, something I didn’t want to lose moving into a districtlevel administrator role,” McGrouty added.
