TRUNK OR TREAT
Thousands attend Samaritan Hospital event for sweet, safe time
The ground level of Samaritan Hospital’s parking garage was filled Friday afternoon with children of all ages getting goodies for their Halloween candy bags during the third annual Trunk or Treat event hosted by Samaritan and St. Mary’s Hospital.
For three hours, children ages 13 and younger were invited to trick-or-treat for free at a safe location.
The event is held as part of the St. Peter’s Health Partners Healthy Future, Healthy Troy campaign.
During Trunk or Treat, children are able to walk around the parking garage and trick-ortreat from the decorated trunks of vehicles. Samaritan and St. Mary’s hospital staff, community organizations, and local agencies including fire and police departments participate.
A tank and a fire engine were also on-site for children to sit in and view. Hospital staff donated the candy and treats. Healthy snacks and non-food items were available as well.
In 2016, more than 4,000 people attended Trunk or Treat. The first Trunk or Treat was held in 2015, following the completion of the new $10 million parking garage at Samaritan Hospital.
The Healthy Future, Healthy Troy campaign helps to showcase the work being done as part of St. Peter’s Health Partners’ $99 million Troy Master Facilities Plan, which aims to transform health care in Troy, Rensselaer County, and surrounding communities.
