ALL YOU CAN EAT BREAKFAST: The Poestenkill Christian Church, 721Snyder’s Corners Rd., will hold its monthly All You Can Eat Breakfast on Saturday, October 7, from 8 a.m. - 11a.m. Cost is $8for adults and $3.50for children under 10. Menu includes eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, home fries, pancakes, french toast, juice, coffee or tea.
CHENEY LIBRARY BOOK SALE: The First Saturday Book Sale at Cheney Library in Hoosick Falls will be held on October 7. In this Buy One Get One sale, for every hardcover book you buy for $1, you will be able to get two of your choice. For every paperback you buy for $.50you will get two of your choice. The library has received a number of new or gently used books, so the selection is great. Be sure to come between 9a.m. and 1 p.m. and get a supply of wonderful reading material.
CIVIL WAR ENCAMPMENT: The Friends of U.S. Grant Cottage will host a Civil War Encampment on Saturday, October 7, from 10a.m. to 4 p.m. on the grounds of the U.S. Grant Cottage State Historic Site in Wilton. The event will feature Civil War Union Generals and their wives, the Sons of the Union Veterans, a Civil War surgeon and infantrymen, along with reenactors portraying Mark Twain, Clara Barton, Grant Cottage caretaker Martha Clarke, and an early suffragette. Musical performances will include banjo player Tom Smith playing throughout the day, The Veterans in the New Field at noon and Run the River at 3p.m. Local authors of books about the Civil War will be on-hand for book sales and signings. Admission to the event is $10for ages 13and up, with free admission for children 12and under. Tours of the historic Grant Cottage will be ongoing and are included with admission to the Encampment. COMICS JAM WORKSHOP: Ira Marcks will be at the Troy Public Library Main Branch at 100Second Street on Saturday, October 7, from 1 p.m. - 4p.m. to host a Comic Jam Workshop. TER: Take a through hike on the Long Path in Thacher Park, from Beaver Dam Road to Old Stage Road. Follow the Escarpment Trail for a while, then make a stop at the Visitor Center. Later, take a side trip to Hang Glider Cliff and stop at High Point Cliff. Moderate pace over a total distance of 8miles on mostly level terrain, with a few ups and downs. Bring appropriate clothing for autumn weather, good trail boots, trail lunch, and rain gear if appropriate. Joint hike with Albany ADK. Meet at 9a.m. at the Nature Center. CHIROPRACTIC PRESENTATION: Dr. Joe Gulyas provides an overview of Chiropractic, a controversial form of alternative medicine mostly concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine. The American Medical Association called chiropractic an “unscientific cult” in 1966 and boycotted it until losing an antitrust case in 1987. HONOR A DECEASED VETEAN: The Rensselaer County Honor a Deceased Veteran Program honors Elton G. Elton served in the United States Army as a Medical Aid Man/Ambulance Driver during World War II earning the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal and several shooting medals. He worked as an Ambulance Driver at Leonard Hospital for 42 years, and was captain for several years of the Knickerbocker Steamer Company, #1in Waterford. POESTENKILL SENIORS: The Poestenkill Seniors hold weekly meetings every Tuesday at 1p.m. at the Sullivan-Jones VFW post in Poestenkill. All seniors are welcome.
