Route 150 bridge to be closed through September for work
NORTHGREENBUSH, N.Y. >> Motorists who normally drive Route 150 over the Wynantskill will have to find an alternate route for much of the summer while state crews rehabilitate the bridge.
Town Police Chief Robert Durivage said in a news release the bridge is scheduled to close Thursday and remain closed until approximately Sept. 1.
The bridge will be taken down and rebuilt during that time, though pedestrians will not be affected because a temporary foot bridge will be installed during the work.
The closure will affect Route 150 between routes 66 and 136 in Wynantskill, with traffic rerouted across bridges on Brookside Avenue or Winter Street bridge, though the Brookside Avnue bridge has a 10-ton weight limit.
Durivage asked motorists to adhere to outlined detours, as they are safer and more efficient than other possible routes. Neighborhoods should not be used as alternate routes, he said, as this can cause safety issues. Marion Avenue will be open to local traffic during the bridge closure.
Town police will be actively patrolling the affected area, as well as detour routes, to ensure all slaws are being obeyed, Durivage said, with speed and weight limits to be strictly enforced.
