No new deaths, 2 new cases as virus continues to subside

As the COVID-19 rate slows in the area, Jefferson, Clearfield and Indiana counties shared in good news Monday, as the Pennsylvan­ia Department of Health reported no new deaths in any of the three and very small case increases by comparison to the previous few months.

Jefferson County identified only two new cases Monday, bringing its total to 2,757 (1,688 confirmed and 1,069 probable); its death toll stands at 86.

Indiana County had only three for a total of 5,018 (3,723 confirmed and 1,295 probable); it has had 157 deaths.

Clearfield County, as has typically been the case in recent weeks, added the most cases Monday, but the 13 new ones reported were still on the low end of its usual range. It now has a total of 6,149 cases (4,614 confirmed and 1,535 probable) and 113 deaths.

Statewide, 3,427 cases reported Sunday and 1,521 reported Monday brought the total to 915,018. Twenty-seven deaths identified Saturday and 17 identified Sunday brought the death toll to 23,614. There are 1,959 people in hospitals with COVID-19, 421 of them in intensive care units.

As of Monday, Jefferson County had administer­ed 4,673 first and 2,987 second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Clearfield County has administer­ed 6,984 first and 4,509 second doses, and Indiana County has administer­ed 5,266 and 3,451.

The Department of Health reported that 1,999,332 doses had been administer­ed statewide as of Sunday. That included 1,458,241 first and 541,091 second doses. Pennsylvan­ia will have been allocated a cumulative 3,172,900 doses by Feb. 27.
