SB Cubs team up for special 4th of July jersey auction

SOUTH BEND — The South Bend Cubs will host a 3-day Independen­ce Day celebratio­n at Four Winds Field from July 1 through July 3.

Chicago Cubs star Ian Happ will be a special guest on Monday, July 1, and sign autographs for fans for one hour. The celebratio­n continues Tuesday with the first 1,000 fans through the gates receiving a red, white, and blue South Bend Cubs hat, and Wednesday’s game is followed by a postgame concert from Seventh Day Slumber. Both Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s games will feature the biggest fireworks show in Michiana.

On July 2 and July 3 the South Bend Cubs will wear special Independen­ce Daythemed jerseys, presented by Caresource, that will be auctioned off with the proceeds benefittin­g La Casa de Amistad. Since 1973, La Casa de Amistad has focused on empowering the Latino/hispanic community through education, cultural, and advocacy services. The auction will go live on Friday, June 28, and run through Wednesday, July 3.

Gates open at 6 p.m. on July 1 and July 2 with a scheduled first pitch of 7:05 p.m. On Wednesday, July 3, gates open at 4:45 p.m. while the first pitch is scheduled for 5:45 p.m.

"We deeply depend on contributi­ons from our community to fund the many programs at La Casa de Amistad,” said Juan Constantin­o, Executive Director for La Casa de Amistad. “The support from the jersey auction will go directly to our center's youth programmin­g and will cover the cost of college tours for our teens, meals for all students, and supplies for their summer camp activities. Thank you to Caresource, the South Bend Cubs, and everyone who contribute­s to supporting our mission. ¡La Casa es tu Casa.”

Along with the Americana-themed jersey, the South Bend Cubs will have four other jersey auctions throughout the season. The Cubs wore Star Wars-themed jerseys on June 8 and they’ll adorn Marvel Super Hero ™ inspired jerseys July 20-21, Los Cabritos Maldichos jerseys July 28, and August 24, and camo jerseys honoring the military August 25, and September 1.
