Area hoops previewed

- By RON Haramia Sports Writer

Although the Bi-county high school basketball tournament is still a week off and sectionals are down the road (three weeks for the girls, more than a month from now for the boys), it felt like the postseason last week for at least two teams - the Glenn and Bremen boys squads.

The Falcons won three times to stay unbeaten, with one of the victories a hard-fought four-point ‘W’ and another where the winning basket was made with two seconds left. The Lions also had a trio of wins, including a onepoint victory over Penn, the first against the Kingsmen since the 1983-84 season, and an overtime nail-biter to down South Bend Washington.

Tonight is another busy night for high school hoops with eight boys and girls games scheduled. Wednesday is usually a light night and will be again with just one contest slated (and still a go).

Here are capsule previews for each of those nine games.

Tuesday tangles

Elkhart @ Glenn (boys)

This is the best start for the Falcons (8-0, 2-0 NIC) since running off 11 straight (after losing their first two) during the 2004-05 season under Gordon Mosson. That year ended with a 20-7 mark and a semistate appearance. The last time Glenn won nine straight to begin the season was back in 1982, Mosson’s first year, when the Falcons

started 13-0 on the way to a 20-3 record. This NIC game with Elkhart (4-6, 1-3 NIC) will be played at North Liberty Elementary School, but the Falcons are getting closer to playing in the renovated TCU Gym at Glenn HS.
