Foundation announces 3 grant awards in local schools
PERKIOMEN >> The Perkiomen Valley School District Foundation recently awarded three mini-grants.
The $1,282 awarded to teachers will support enhancements around the
Perkiomen Valley School District.
The foundation funds innovative projects and programs in the Perkiomen Valley School District when traditional funds are unavailable. Staff and employees can submit applications for mini-grants throughout the year for consideration.
The recipients of the October mini-grant round are:
• Unpack it: Take Home Totes for Challenging Life Events at Skippack Elementary.
This project supports students facing a challenging life event. Every school year, students and families work to overcome tremendous personal obstacles such as the death of a loved one, the loss of a pet, divorce or separation in the family, serious illnesses, moving, and so much more. The totes will support students by providing resources and activities around their specific challenge and inform parents and families about ways to assist their children.
• Science in Sound: Chladni Plate at Middle School West
Chladni Plates aims to provide an innovative and interactive educational experience for students by visualizing sound waves, bridging the gap between music and science. This unique approach enhances students’ understanding of the physics of sound and offers insights into sound architecture and overtone production. By making sound visible, it facilitates the exploration of various career paths related to music technology and sound physics.
• Courtyard beautification at Perkiomen Valley High School
Take Action made plans last year to beautify the courtyard at the high school and needed the funds to make this a reality. Their plans include creating areas for studying and relaxation, catering to students with special needs through a sensory garden, and fostering community involvement, including partnerships with an Eagle Scout for building raised garden beds.
Any company or individual interested in supporting innovative ideas within the Perkiomen Valley School District can donate through the website and receive a tax-deductible receipt; visit www.PVSDFoundation.org.
