$4.1 million 2022 budget cuts taxes
Sewer plant sale helps cut taxes
ROYERSFORD » Property taxes in the borough will go down in 2022, although not by much.
Royersford Borough Council unanimously adopted a $4,170,723 budget for 2022 that drops taxes by a quarter of a percent.
According to Borough Manager Donna Ziegler, the borough’s millage rate will go from 8.95 mills in 2021 to 8.70 mills in 2022. The fire tax will remain at 1.25 mills.
The tax reduction means $25 saved for every $100,000 of assessed value per home. Boroughwide, this is a reduction of $46,700 in taxes, according to a message posted on the borough’s Facebook page.
“We remain ever focused on spending money efficiently and pursuing many grant opportunities to reduce the burden on our residents. While taxes increase yearly in many surrounding communities, Royersford has not raised taxes in some time and in 2021 eliminated the per capita tax,” the borough posted.
“The factors that allowed for the tax cut included a mix of the borough paying off all of its municipal debt in 2021 and use of excess funds made available from the sale of the wastewater plant in 2021,” Ziegler wrote in an email response to a query from MediaNews Group.
Royersford sold its sewer plant for $13 million to Pennsylvania American Water, a private utility company that also provides public water to the borough.
“Next year’s budget, like 2021, will include several infrastructure projects, including parking lot upgrades, trestle bridge rehab, a new phase of our trail extension and several road repaving projects,” the borough posted on Facebook.
