Jupiter wrestling coach Rasmusson pins down 300th career victory,

Jupiter wrestling coach Doug Rasmusson surpassed the 300-win mark at the school this week.

The veteran coach, who took over the Warriors’ program in October 1995, improved his career mark at the school to 304-145-1 in dual meet competition following an unbeaten showing Wednesday at the North Conference Wrestling Tournament.

The Warriors went 5-0 at the competition, defeating Suncoast, Dwyer, Palm Beach Gardens, Cardinal Newman and Palm Beach Lakes.

Rasmusson’s 300th win was officiated by former Jupiter wrestler Matt Cousins.

Rasmusson was inducted into the Palm Beach County Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2013. He also was nominated for the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, which is in Stillwater, Okla.

He finished eighth in this year’s voting — the top six are inducted – but he said he hopes to be voted in next season.

The 2017-18 wrestling regular season continues through Feb. 9.

Recruiting: One of Palm Beach County’s top 2019 football players picked up a major offer Wednesday night.

Palm Beach Central’s Renato Brown, the No. 6 player on the Post’s Too Early Top 20, received an offer from Alabama, announcing the offer on his Twitter feed.

Brown, a Miami commit, is a three-star prospect and the No. 568 player in 247Sports’ composite rankings, putting him at No. 59 among offensive tackles in the class. Brown is planning on playing defensive line at Miami.

Brown played a strong offensive tackle this season, racking up 33 pancake blocks. On defense, he had 42 tackles, nine tackles for loss, three sacks, one interception and one forced fumble.

Alabama has had mixed success in recruiting top Palm Beach County players, getting last year’s top player on the Big Board, VanDarius Cowan, but missing on other top players like Ahmmon Richards (signed with Miami) and Gurvan Hall (committed to Miami).

Brown’s teammate, Akeem Dent (a Florida State commit) also has an offer from Alabama.

Honors for Travis, Acosta: Benjamin quarterback Jordan Travis picked up another big postseason honor. The Louisville commit was named a finalist for the 2017 Florida Dairy Farmers’ Mr. Football Award after earning the most votes among Class 3A players.

He earned Class 3A Player of the Year honors, and will compete with eight other class winners for the title of Mr. Football.

The winner will be announced later this month following a final round of bal- loting by coaches and media.

Travis, who helped lead the Bucs to the Class 3A regional finals this season, completed 130-of-213 passes for 2,190 yards with 24 touchdowns. He threw seven interceptions. He also rushed for 905 yards on 70 carries — an average of 11.8 yards — and 16 touchdowns.

Travis is the No. 8-ranked player on the Post’s Class of 2018 Big Board, and also was a preseason Super 11 selection. Earlier this month he was named the Lou Groza Awards High School Player of the Year.

■ Glades Day tight end Jorge Acosta is the lone Palm Beach County athlete selected to compete in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association’s 63rd North/ South All-Star Football Classic. The game will be played Saturday at The Villages High School.

Acosta, a senior, will compete with the South All-Stars.

A total of 76 players were selected to participate in Saturday’s competition, which will feature North and South All-Star squads. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
