Seminoles lose RB Patrick to knee surgery

TALLAHASSEE — The season just seems to be getting worse for Florida State.

Starting running back Jacques Patrick will undergo knee surgery and be out indefinitely, coach Jimbo Fisher said Monday.

An MRI on Sunday showed Patrick suffered torn cartilage in his knee. Fisher said he thought the injury occurred in Saturday’s 31-28 loss to Louisville.

The Seminoles(2-4) have now lost their starting quarterback, Deondre Francois, and starting running back, helping lead to the worst start to a season since 1976. FSU must win four out of its next five games to become bowl eligible and avoid missing a postseason game for the first time since 1981.

Patrick rushed for 434 yards and a touchdown this season. Without him, the Seminoles will turn to freshman Cam Akers to carry the load in the backfield. Akers leads the team with 454 yards and a touchdown on 87 carries. The offense has scored just three rushing touchdowns this season.

Fisher not sorry about incident with fan: Following FSU’s loss to Louisville, an irate fan took the opportunity to express his frustrations by yelling “get new coaches” to Fisher as he was leaving the field. The Seminoles coach immediately fired back at the fan telling him to walk his “a— down here and say it.”

In his postgame news conference, Fisher explained his comments toward the fan, saying he was defending his family and “you take up for ’em.”

On Monday, Warchant. com asked Fisher during his weekly news conference whether he regretted firing back at the fan.

Fisher went on to explain the fan comments were unacceptable because they were made in front of players and the children of coaches.

“For one of our fans to say that after that excruciating and painful loss, walking through that stadium, I would have never thought in a thousand years,” he said.
