Brady impressed by Tannehill’s streak
Ryan Tannehill didn’t just make a splash in the NFL record book by completing 25 consecutive passes straddling the Tennessee and Houston games.
He also made an impact with a certain quarterback up in New England who’s bound for the Hall of Fame.
“That’s incredible,” Tom Brady said. “I mean, 25 straight completions, I mean it’s hard to do that when there’s no defense out there.”
Brady added, “He’s been a great player for that team. I know they count on him. He’s got a great arm and he’s a great leader. He does such a great job with the ball in his hands, too, on a lot of those run plays. He’s fast. He’s very obviously a very dangerous player.”
Brady said he respects coordinator Bill Lazor’s offffffffffffense.
“I really enjoy studying that offffffffffffense and the things they do,” Brady said. “They always come up with some good ideas. When we’re not playing them, they’re always an offffffffffffense I keep an eye on.” phins scored four offffffffffffensive touchdowns of at least 50 yards in the fifirst half against the Texans.
They never would have happened without an often-overlooked aspect of playing wide receiver — blocking. Rishard Matthews and Kenny Stills were among those getting in on the action deep downfifield, and it wasn’t by accident. Coach Dan Campbell stresses it.
“We’ve been taking a lot of pride in that lately,” Matthews said. “I think we’re doing a great job at that.”
Stills: “We want to set the bar for what receivers should be doing as far as running with the ball after the catch, as far as blocking for the running backs, blocking for screens, whatever.”
Matthews said blocking on the second and third level has become contagious.
“There were a couple of plays where Pounce and a couple of guys were like 40 yards downfifield, getting a block in,” Matthews said of center Mike Pouncey, who needed no reminding he was far downfifield on Jarvis Landry’s 50-yard TD.
Pouncey, winded after the play, joked that he was relieved the play survived a review “because then we would have had to go back and that would have been bad.”
