Duncan receives invite Wellington guard will try out for USA Women’s U16 Team.
Wellington guard Jillian Duncan will have an opportunity to showcase her skills in front of a national audience this weekend.
The freshman has been invited to the 2015 USA Basketball Women’s U16 National Team Trials in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The event, which runs through Monday at the United States Olympic Training Center, is expected to draw 158 players from across the country.
The athletes, who all are 16 years old or younger, will compete for one of 12 roster spots on the 2015 USA Basketball Women’s U16 National Team while taking part in skills sessions, performance seminars and scrimmage sessions.
Top performers will have the opportunity to compete in the 2015 BA Americas U16 Championship on June 24-28 in Puebla, Mexico.
Duncan averaged 10.3 points and three assists for the Wolverines last season.
“Her energy and basketball IQ really make her a great player to coach and watch,” Wellington coach Randy Soto said. “Next year is a real exciting year for us. This experience should really help her moving forward.”
Baseball: Seven Palm Beach County baseball players are scheduled to participate in this weekend’s 37th Annual FACA All-Star Classic in Sebring.
The three-day event at Fireman’s Field features a Pro/College Scout workout today, followed by two games each Saturday and Sunday. Game times are 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. both days.
Teams are divided into North, West, South and East All-Stars.
Palm Beach County participants include Wellington’s Matt Morales (North); American Heritage’s Jonathan India and Hunter Bowling South) and Tyler Frank (East); Dwyer’s Thomas Szapucki (South); Jupiter’s Mack Lemieux South); and Park Vista’s Matthew Mika (East).
