VVS’ Evans, Cazenovia’s Romig advance to state
Olivia Evans will play in the girls golf state championship while Nate Romig advanced in boys tennis.
SECTION III CHAMPIONSHIPS » Vernon-Verona-Sherrill’s Olivia Evans earned her third straight trip to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association girls golf championships, shooting an 88 at Tuesday’s qualifier at Kanon Valley to finish seventh. Auburn’s Lindsay May shot a 68 to take the individual while Fayetteville-Manlius (341) and Skaneateles (412) won the Division I and Division II team titles, respectively.

SECTION III INTERCLASS TOURNAMENT » Cazenovia’s Nate Romig earned a return trip to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships with a dominant performance in Tuesday’s interclass tournament. Romig earned a first-round by before posting 6-0, 6-0 victories over New Hartford’s Ethan Lampert in the second round and Manlius Pebble Hill’s Trilok Reddy in the quarterfinals. He was almost equally as impressive in the semifinals, beating Christian Brothers Academy’s Ben Vlassis 6-0, 6-1 to advance to Wednesday’s final and earn an automatic berth in the state tournament.

STOCK BRIDGE VALLEY 2, NEWYORK MILLS1 » Beau Burke hit awalk-off double to give the Cougars a victory and a berth in the Section III Class D quarterfinals. Jared Couture and Joshua Wagner combined to allow just two Marauders hits, with Wagner pitching the final two innings to earn the victory.
MADISON11, MCGRAW4 » The No. 5 seed Blue Devils took their third victory of the season over the No. 12 Eagles, starting strong with a six-run second inning and never looking back. Tyler Hummer and
Colton Stone each drove in two runs in the winning effort and Alex Cotter doubled and had an RBI as well for Madison. CAZENOVIA 6, JORDAN-ELBRIDGE 5 >> Burke Regan pitched three innings to earn the victory on the mound for the Lakers in the Section III Class B playin round while also batting 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored. HAMILTON 8, LYME 4 >> Trevor Dow went 3-for- 4 at the plate for the Emerald Knights, hitting a triple and a home run and driving in four runs in the victory to lead Hamilton into the Section III Class D quarterfinals. CAMDEN 6, CHRISTIAN BROTHERS ACADEMY 4 >> Hunter Holliday doubled and scored twice for the Blue Devils, who won their second straight game to start the double-elimination Section III Class A tournament. CANASTOTA 6, HANNIBAL 1 >> Ken Coe earned the victory for the Raiders in the Section III Class B play-in round, striking out 10 and allowing four hits. Zach Eberly drove in three runs for Canastota in the victory.

VERNON-VERONA-SHERRILL 13, SKANEATELES5>> Jordan Penoyer struck out 11 to earn thewin in the circle for the Red Devils in the playin round of the Section III Class B tournaments while also tallying three hits and four runs scored. Kirsten Oliver added a 4-for-5 performance with a double, an RBI and a run scored for VVS.
CANASTOTA 4, SHERBURNEEARLVILLE 3 >> The Raiders pulled out a close victory in the play-in round of the Section III Class B tournament. Seven players had hits for Canastota, including Logan Hood who tripled and scored a run.
STOCK BRIDGE VALLEY 16, ALEXANDRIA BAY 1 (6 INNINGS) >> Alaina Beane tossed a no-hitter for the No. 2 seed Cougars in their Section III Class D playoff victory, striking out 10 and walking two. Olivia Marshall paced the offense in the victory, going 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and two RBI while teammate Jillian Jacobs went 2-for- 4 with four RBI and a run scored.
CHITTENANGO 8, JORDANEL BRIDGE 4 >> Cassidy Kelly, Trisha Whaley and Sydney Bennett all had triples for the Bears in the Section III Class B play-in victory while Morgan Shoemaker went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Whaley drove in three runs and also scored twice for Chittenango.
CAMDEN 10, MEXICO 0 >> The Blue Devils jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and continued to pull away from there, winning to advance to the Section III Class A quarterfinals.
MORRISVILLE- EATON 16, CINCINNATUS 15 >> M-E allowed 11 first-inning runs but kept its season alive by coming back to beat Cincinnatus in the Section III Class D play-in round. Delaney Koehl went 4-for-5 with two RBI, four stolen bases and three runs scored while Cooper Koehl went 3-for-5 with two RBI and four runs scored in the victory.
PULASKI 11, CAZENOVIA 8 >> The Lakers couldn’t make a 1-0 first-inning lead stand up, falling in the Section III Class B play-in round.
Boys Lacrosse
WESTHILL 14, CAZENOVIA 8 >> The Lakers saw their season end in the Section III Class D semifinals despite a three-goal effort from Will Shephard.
Girls Lacrosse
SKANEATELES 20, CAZENOVIA 4 >> Keara Dwyer scored twice for Cazenovia in the season-ending defeat.

SECTION III QUALIFIERS>> Three Dispatch-area golfers advanced through their regional qualifiers on Monday into the Section III state qualifiers to be held at Seven Oaks beginning today. Vernon- Verona- Sher - rill’s James Renwick shot an 85 at Skenandoa on Monday to advance out of the East Region. The West Region saw a pair of Cazenovia teammates advance as well. Alex Pezzi shot an 82 at Pompey to move on while teammate Cody Thorp advanced with an 84.
Baseball
CAMDEN8, EAST SYRACUSE-MINOA 3 >> The Blue Devils trailed 1-0 after one inning and 3-1 after three innings but rallied with a run in the fourth and another in the fifth to tie the score before pulling ahead for good with a five-run sixth. LOWVILLE 8, CHITTENANGO 2 >> The No. 19 seed Bears dropped their play-in game at the No. 14 seed on Monday afternoon.
