ONEIDA>> Curtis S. Newman, 65, of Oneida, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, at home after a short illness, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Hospice.

He was born on April 30, 1951, in Utica, the son of Edward and Dolores Newman. He was a graduate of Oneida High School, class of 1969, and went on to attend Mohawk Valley Community College.

Curt worked for Terry Insurance Agency, Noyes & LaLonde Insurance and most recently Bailey, Haskell & LaLonde One Group as an insurance claims manager. He was a long-time member of Oneida Rotary Club.

For years, Curt served as a referee for high school football and basketball on the IAABO Utica Board 51, as well as an umpire for various area softball leagues. He also participat­ed in a number of softball and bowling leagues throughout the years. Curt was an avid golfer and was a member of Kanon Valley Country Club.

Curt is survived by his wife, Michele Haynes Newman; his daughter Rae (David) Fulkerson, of Baldwinsvi­lle; his stepdaught­ers, Misty (Paul) Hummel, of Verona, and Melissa Hudson, of Oneida and fiancé, Mike Panek, of Solvay; beloved grandchild­ren Hadyn and Reese Fulkerson, Brittany Hummel, Parker, Charlize and Braylon Mitchell and Michael Panek; three sisters, Susan (Paul) Wickham of Virginia Beach, Va., Lynda (Robert) Gates of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Denise Skinner and Peter Lachacz of Oneida; one brother, Douglas Newman of Durhamvill­e; a sister-in-law, Geraldine Newman, of Durhamvill­e; one aunt, Arlene Kamilow of NewHartfor­d; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his former wife, Michelle McChesney Newman, of Baldwinsvi­lle.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, Edward and Dolores Newman, and his sister, Mary Roache.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, 551 Sayles St., Oneida. Private interment will take place in Oneida Castle Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Monday from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. at the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., 342 Main St., Oneida. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you make a donation to the Creutzfeld­t-Jakob Disease Foundation or Hospice of Central New York.
