Fall Festival returns to Cazenovia Library

CAZENOVIA>> The following events are scheduled at Cazenovia Public Library during October.

Thismonth, Cazenovia will celebrate the changing seasons with the third annual Fall Festival. Children’s Programmin­g Coordinato­r Jenna Wright Martin invites children and their families to the Cazenovia Public Library on Saturday, Oct. 22 for Family Pumpkin Painting at 10:30 a.m. followed by the Children’s Fall Festival Parade at 12 p.m.

The library will host a selection of shorts from “WE THE VOTERS: Films for the People” on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 3:15 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Community Room.

WE THE VOTERS is a non-partisan organizati­on, whose goal is to help people understand their individual roles in democracy. PBS has partnered with WE THE VOTERS to present a digital project featuring short films created to activate voters across the country. Topics include the two party system, state’s rights, media bias, polling, health care, local government, liberty versus security, and student debt.

The screenings will be followed by a discussion session.

The library will host Cazenovia College’s Faculty Library Lecture Series: Great Minds/Great Ideas, on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room. Dr. Nancy Barno Reynolds, assistant professor of Inclusive Education will present “The (Hidden) Agenda of Common Core and the Reign of John King: A Critical Look at Language Use & Positionin­g in an Era of Accountabi­lity.”

Author Christophe­r L. Webber will be at the library for a presentati­on on his book, “Give Me Liberty: Speeches and Speakers that Shaped American History” on Friday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room. Web-

ber’s book features chapters on Patrick Henry, Daniel Webster, Martin Luther King Jr., and other notable American figures. His lecture will focus on Abraham Lincoln and his momentous Cooper Union speech, delivered on Feb. 27, 1860. Copies of the book will be available for purchase following the presentati­on.

The Cazenovia Public Library invites adults of all ages to switch off, relax, and color on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the next installmen­t of the popular adult coloring program. Cookies and supplies will be provided.

The Open Afternoon Book Club will meet in the Story Garden Room on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. to discuss “Eligible: A Novel” (2016), by Curtis Sittenfeld, and “Emma: A Modern Retelling” (2014), by Alexander McCall Smith. In both works the authors provide fresh takes on Jane Austen’s timeless stories, transplant­ing her beloved characters into the modern world.
