Cleanup dates set

NORMAN — The city of Norman has announced Saturday dates for the 2022 Residentia­l Spring Clean-Up event. All items will need to be placed at the curbside no later than 7:30 a.m. on respective collection days. Residents may place their items at the curb no earlier than one week before the scheduled collection day. Cleanup dates according to residentia­l customers’ polycart service days include:

h April 2: Monday polycart service.

h April 9: Tuesday polycart service.

h April 16: Wednesday polycart service.

h April 23: Thursday polycart service.

Guthrie book sale planned

GUTHRIE — The Friends of the Guthrie Public Library reschedule­d book sale will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in the Fellowship Hall of First United Presbyteri­an Church, 102 E Noble.

The annual meeting of the Friends will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the Fellowship Hall, with the members-only presale immediatel­y following.

Museum gets grant

Science Museum Oklahoma has received a $15,000 grant from the Carolyn Watson Rural Oklahoma Community Foundation through its Community Grant program.

The grant was used to assist in developing capacity at the public libraries in Checotah and Westville to deliver educationa­l hands-on science programmin­g.

Wildlife camp seeks applicants

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservati­on is accepting applicatio­ns for the annual Wildlife Youth Camp, which will be June 12-17 at the OU Biological Station near Kingston. Youths ages 14 to 16 who are accepted will have an opportunit­y to explore careers in the world of wildlife and fisheries management.

LitterBlit­z volunteers sought

OKC Beautiful is recruiting volunteers for the annual LitterBlit­z campaign, where volunteer groups across the city can team up to pick up litter in the

community.

LitterBlit­z teams clean up one site, one time, during the April LitterBlit­z campaign. Each team may select the location and the day to hold the cleanup. Trash bags, gloves and safety tips will be provided to volunteer teams.

VIBES to return

EDMOND — VIBES Edmond’s First Thursdays, a monthly open-air art walk event, will begin its second season on April 7 in downtown Edmond.

The first Thursday of each month April through October, downtown Edmond will be bustling with local artists, live performanc­es and local shopping from 5 to 9 p.m. during the free community event.

This year, VIBES will include 73 visual artists, 38 performing artists, and more than 40 businesses participat­ing in the monthly events for the 2022 season. New features will include two Paint Offs, one Mural Paint Off Competitio­n, a Plein Air Art Night, Chalk Art Night, Ceramics Throw Night, Sketch Sessions on the Lawn and more.

Scholarshi­p deadline set

The deadline for Democrats to submit applicatio­ns for the Canadian County Democrats’ Robert “Bob” Burton Democratic Scholarshi­p is April 29. Democrats registered to vote in Canadian County have competed for the $500 scholarshi­ps for 16 years.

Applicants must be enrolled at least half-time at an accredited state-funded college, university or career technology center in Oklahoma.

Sheriff ’s office joins network

The Cleveland County sheriff’s office recently joined the nationwide OffenderWa­tch sex offender registry network.

The network enables collaborat­ion on investigat­ions and sharing of informatio­n involving registered sex offenders with more than 4,000 other local law enforcemen­t agencies across the country. Additional­ly, Cleveland County residents can use the Cleveland County sheriff’s website to search for sex offenders residing in their neighborho­od and subscribe to receive e-mail alerts from the Cleveland County sheriff’s office, a news release announced.

UCO center plans open house

EDMOND — An open house is planned Thursday for the Center for Active Living and Learning (CALL) at the University of Central Oklahoma.

The come-and-go event will be from 2 to 4 p.m. in Room 134 of the UCO Wellness Center on campus. The event is free and open to the public.

The Center for Active Living and Learning offers fitness classes and health and wellness instructio­n for adults age 60 and older. Classes are led by UCO students in the kinesiolog­y-exercise/fitness management program.
