Learn about `The Wonders of DNA'

- Staff reports

The Oklahoma Home and Community Education Genealogy group will host a presentation on “The Wonders of DNA” at 10 a.m. Feb. 17 at the Oklahoma County Extension office, 2500 NE 63.

Andrea G. Moon will be the speaker for the program. Moon became interested in genealogy as a child when she first learned her mother immigrated to the United States. After her mother's death, she found an old box of letters that gave new purpose to her search for family. The information in the letters contained valuable information about her relatives and helped her find known family with whom she had lost contact.

The letters also led her to take a DNA test, which led her to matches that seemed to have no Moon connection

to what she knew of her family. Moon will speak about how she used genealogy websites, DNA test companies, census records, grave records, obituaries and more to help her to ultimately find her biological family.

Moon is a member of the Edmond Genealogical Society, where she serves on the board as webmaster and newsletter chair, a member of the OHCE Genealogy group and serves on the board of Edmond Arts Association.

Moon maintains her own websites, creates websites for clients and does DNA nutrition. She has lived in Edmond since 1973, enjoys traveling and her passion for genealogy has inspired her husband to become involved in the hobby. She firmly believes in what DNA can reveal and practices DNA nutrition. At the end of her presentation, she will give a brief overview of what DNA nutrition can do for individuals.

The meeting is open to the public and masks are required, along with social distancing. The ongoing pandemic may cause adjustments to scheduled events. For more information and any schedule changes, search ohcegenealogy on Facebook or go to www.ohcegenealogy.com.
