Child porn suspect allegedly used popular chat apps
A 39- year-old Piedmont man arrested on a child pornography complaint allegedly told investigators he used popular messaging apps to download
illicit images.
On Aug. 21, Canadian County Sheriff's Office investigators arrested Jack Reed after a tip referred by t he Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation's Internet Crimes Against Children Unit.
Authorities said the tip originated from Dropbox administrators when they conducted an audit of Reed's account and found more than 30 images and videos of child pornography. The images and videos were of children both male and female under the ages of 10 engaged in sexual abuse with adults, investigators said.
Investigators arrested Reed at a traffic stop near his house before a search warrant was executed.
When Reed was informed about the search warrant for child pornography, he had a “medical incident” and paramedics were called, authorities said. Reed asked to be taken to a hospital by an ambulance, authorities said.
Investigators informed Reed he was under arrest for possession of child pornography, authorities said.
A Canadian County Sheriff' s Office investigator followed the ambulance transporting Reed to Mercy Hospital, and sat with the suspect in the emergency room, authorities said.
While Reed was at the hospital, investigators executed a search warrant at his residence. Multiple electronic devices were collected as evidence and taken to the Canadian County Sheriff's Office for examination, authorities said.
Investigators said they also found multiple images of child pornography on Reed's cell phone. The images were of females between the ages of 12 to 15 years of age.
While receiving treatment at Mercy Hospital, Reed allegedly told the investigator the child pornography on his Dropbox account was his and he put it there. Reed said he did this because he was “curious,” according to investigators.
He allegedly told investigator she used messaging apps KiK and We Chat to download child pornography.
After Reed was released from the hospital, he was taken to the Canadian County jail, where he was booked on one count of possession of child pornography, authorities said. He was later released on $25,000 bail.
Investigators said they will present additional charges to the District Attorney's Office.
