Tuttle off to fast start

The Tuttle Tigers enter a bye week with a 3-0 record and a No. 4 ranking in Class 4A.

Tuttle is on a roll entering its bye week.

The fourth-ranked Tigers have won all three games to open the season, including two straight victories over top-five Class 3A opponents.

The latest came Friday in a 34-19 win over Plainview.

“I was really proud of how the kids played,” Tuttle coach Brad Ballard said. “On the road, even better.”

Quarterback Carson Berryhill threw three touchdowns, all to Camden Periman, who caught four passes for 110 yards. Running back Triston Truelove also had a big night with 130 yards and two TDs on 32 carries.

And the defense again held a good offense down.

“Their attitude is to run to the ball and be physical,” Ballard said. “They’ve continued to do that. Man, I’m telling you what, when we get them doing that anything can happen.”

Tuttle travels to Tecumseh on Friday, Sept. 21.

Washington’s Spaulding shines in rout

Muddy conditions only helped Washington’s rushing attack Friday night.

The seventh-ranked Warriors rolled to a 31-0 rout of Purcell behind running back Lance Spaulding’s huge first half.

“It was real muddy, but we lined up and ran the football,” Washington coach Brad Beller said. “The offensive line did a great job. We were just trying to control the clock.”

Washington built a 24-0 lead by halftime with that strategy.

And Spaulding had 183 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries. He played one series in the third quarter, but did not carry the ball.

Also, through two games Washington has yet to allow a point.

“It shows that we’re very balanced right now defensively,” Beller said. “We do a great job stopping the run, and we’re not giving up the deep ball in the secondary right now. Our staff has done a great job putting our players in position to make plays and they’re executing really well.”

Madron leads the way for Blanchard

Through two games this season, Blanchard running back Bryce Madron has shouldered the offensive load.

That continued on Friday as Madron racked up huge yards to help give Blanchard a 34-0 win against Anadarko.

Madron rushed for 292 yards and four touchdowns on 31 carries, three of the four scores came from distance as the junior running back had touchdown runs of 36, 39 and 42 yards.

On the season, Madron has 451 yards and eight touchdowns rushing.

Blanchard receiver Jamie Nance also had another impressive special teams performance, returning a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown. Nance has two kickoff returns for a touchdown this year.
