Butler’s 4 TDs lead Yukon to rout of Moore

YUKON — Steady rain made visibility difficult in the opening quarter of Friday’s game between Yukon and Moore.
No bother for Yukon’s Isaiah Butler. He had a clear vision to the end zone.
Butler scored four touchdowns, two on kickoffs including the opening play, as Yukon defeated Moore 49-27 at Miller Stadium.
Yukon improved to 3-0 and finished non-district play undefeated in coach Jeremy Reed’s second season with the Class 6A school.
Butler was electrifying in his returns, for on both touchdowns he caught the ball on the far sideline before cutting vertically across the field behind a wall of Yukon blockers.
The second kickoff, a 96-yard return, Butler appeared immediately tackled, yet he juked two Moore defenders before bursting to the outside and following his line of blockers to a clearing as he turned the corner.
“I have to thank my teammates for the blocking,” Butler said. “Special teams are the main priority for our team. We work on this at 6:30 in the morning. It’s something we take serious.”
Butler added two rushing touchdowns, a 38-yard score on an option pitch in the first quarter and a 13-yard run on a crossing handoff in the third quarter.
The final score fails to display how closely the first half was played. Moore (0-2) responded to each of Yukon’s first three touchdowns and ran 39 offensive plays compared to Yukon’s 15.
Moore quarterback Daniel Hishaw Jr. played superbly and finished the game with more than 250 yards passing and rushing combined. He threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more as he consistently escaped Yukon’s defensive containment in the first half.
Early third quarter turnovers doomed any attempt Moore had to keep pace with the home side. Moore fumbled deep in its territory during its first two second-half possessions, both which led to Yukon touchdowns.
