Choctaw captures Yukon tournament
As Choctaw enters the later stages of the wrestling season, it continues to show well at tournaments, and the Yellowjackets could be getting a huge piece of their team back soon.
At the Jay Hancock Invitational at Yukon last week, Choctaw went on to win the team title thanks in part to performances from a few of its most proven winners.
At 160 pounds, Jeff Speer won a 6-1 decision against Edmond North’s Charles Floyd, while Zane Coleman and Easton Rendleman both recorded falls.
“We had a lot of early falls that really added up in the end,” Choctaw coach Benny Coleman said. “The experienced guys handled their business, and we are wrestling well right now.”
At 182 pounds, Zane Coleman took down Coweta’s Talon Borror in 2:30, while Rendleman pinned Putnam City North’s Vy Cato in 5:28.
Choctaw went on to win with 230 team points, beating Texas’ Allen High School by 16.5 points.
Coleman said 106-pound wrestler Gabe Johnson, who broke his wrist before Christmas, could possibly be back this week.
Perry wins Owasso dual tournament
Ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, Perry faced off against an out-of-state foe for the championship in Owasso.
Perry took down Kansas’ Goddard High School 39-21 in the Owasso Dual Tournament this past week, winning nine decisions and getting two falls in the process.
At 120 pounds, Cade Nicholas pinned Goddard’s Isiah Holmes in 2:38. During the 132 pound match, Perry’s Dylan Avery pinned Goddard’s Logan Pirl in 1:15.
Mustang High School finished third in the tournament, defeating Kansas’ Lebanon High School 47-21 in the third-place match.
Mustang recorded three pins against Lebanon, including a 46-second fall by Cooper Meadows against Lebanon’s Ty Glendenning.

Southmoore finished with 239.5 points, 25 points ahead of second-place Conroe Woodlands College Park High School.
