Grant-funded technology is demonstrated at Edmond school

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

EDMOND — Representatives from the Oklahoma Educational Technology Trust visited Will Rogers Elementary School on Thursday to participate in a site visit and see their OETT grant in action.

The $65,000 grant provides technology and professional development to students and teachers. The grant has provided 83 iPad Air 2 devices and 81 Doink Green Screen apps. The grant funding will provide a minimum of five tablets in every classroom, allowing increasing student use of devices for reading and math centers, research, creative presentations, virtual field trips and other possibilities, according to a news release.

Will Rogers joins 248 other schools in Oklahoma and their combined 100,000 students that have received the OETT grants since 2003. In addition, more than 7,000 teachers, superintendents, and principals have received professional development training to assist with the new technology.

OETT was established 15 years ago as a result of an agreement between thenattorney general Drew Edmondson and AT&T Oklahoma during the company’s transition to a modern form of regulation. As part of the agreement, AT&T contributed $30 million to establish the trust.

OETT is administered by Communities Foundation of Oklahoma and Foundation Management Inc. The professional development is provided through an OETT grant to the K20 Center of the University of Oklahoma.
