COKE TO MIX SOCIAL MEDIA WITH ADS

NEW YORK — Most people will be cheering for the San Francisco 49ers or Baltimore Ravens during Super Bowl XLVII on Feb. 3. But Coca-Cola is asking viewers to cheer for three very different groups in an interactive marketing blitz during the big game: a troupe of showgirls, a band of cowboys and a biker-style gang of “badlanders” — all on a quest for a thirst-quenching Coke in a desert. The campaign, which will include TV spots as well as a website and interaction with consumers on social media sites like Twitter and Instagram, asks viewers to vote online for their favorite group. It is the beverage maker’s latest attempt to capture interest of people who watch the Big Game with a tablet or smartphone nearby.

STOCKHOLM — Ikea says it plans to open 25 new outlets and recruit 75,000 more workers overall by 2020, as its global market share last year increased with annual net profit growing 8 percent to $4.3 billion. The world’s largest furniture retailer on Wednesday reported revenue of $36.5 billion for the 2012 fiscal year, up from $34.5 billion a year earlier. The company does not release quarterly figures. Ikea Group CEO Mikael Ohlsson said most growth last year was in China, Russia and Poland, closely followed by the United States and Germany. The Sweden-based company has 338 stores employing some 154,000 people in more than 40 countries.
