Richard T. “Dick” Healy Jr., 84, passed away on November 19, 2021.

Dick was born in Detroit, Michigan and was blessed to be the son of Emily and Richard Healy Sr. and the older brother to Joan. Dick grew up in Detroit and attended St. Mary of Redford grade school. He felt fortunate to be taught by the Jesuits during his high school years at the University of Detroit. He graduated college from his beloved University of Notre Dame in 1960 with a degree in Finance. He had $ in his head or recall addresses, phone numbers, and dates was effortless for him while amazing to those around him. He spent most of his career in sales roles at Michigan Bell, which later became Ameritech and then AT&T. He achieved the company’s “Hall of Fame” honor in 1987, earning a trip to Maui. He chose his father as his traveling # $ waii while relishing time spent together. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Dick was intellectu­ally curious and had well-informed opinions on world %

high school sports. He enjoyed learning the stories of the people he met. He asked questions that led to interestin­g conversati­ons and incredible relationsh­ips. He naturally found common interests to foster and deepen personal connection­s. He treasured the friendship­s he developed through social dancing, his love of Notre Dame football and women’s basketball, organizing class reunions, and working with his colleagues at Ameritech. Dick’s sense of humor, loyalty, and sometimes self-deprecatin­g candor generated laughter and lasting friendship­s. He also loved being an uncle and always looked forward to seeing his cousins at family gatherings. Dick was a wonderful father and is beloved by his children. When his kids were young, Dick coached them in youth sports and hit countless ground balls to them. Throughout their lives, he supported his children in their endeavors and instilled in #% take risks and achieve their dreams. His children always felt his unconditio­nal love. Dick was a man of strong faith and attended Catholic Mass daily. He taught his children the importance of having faith and a relationsh­ip with Jesus. He put his time and treasure toward the causes close to his heart, even in death. He donated his body to Wayne State University School of Medicine to further the teaching of medical students. Dick adored his grandchild­ren and was proud of their character, smarts, and kind hearts. Dick is survived by his three children, Deborah Darnell, Daniel Healy and wife Kristin, Colleen Healy and husband Patrick Pritchard; and his six grandchild­ren, Drake Darnell, Kevin Darnell, Emily Healy, Aidan Healy, Rebecca Healy, and Sarah Healy. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Rattray and her husband William Rattray. He is preceded in death by his parents, Emily and Richard Healy Sr. Family and friends are warmly invited to a Celebratio­n of Life Mass for him on Monday, December 20, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Benedict Church, 40 S.
