The Norwalk Hour

An invitation to leave Conn.

-

To the editors,

I read with interest the responses to your survey asking readers to express their opinion on whether Connecticut should have a vaccine passport.

As a senior citizen, I’ve been vaccinated and “boosted,” and am very proud that I’m now protecting myself, my family and my fellow Americans against COVID! So, naturally I have no problem if the state or federal government mandates a vaccine passport.

That said, I was amused and dismayed to see some of the senseless responses from unvaccinated readers, especially the ones who have been brainwashed into thinking that getting vaccinated somehow infringes upon their freedom!

I have a news flash for them: The millions of Americans who got vaccinated still enjoy their freedom. And they are exercising their patriotic duty by contributing to the war effort against an insidious enemy that has thus far killed more than 5.3 million people worldwide, 803,000 in the United States, and 9,000 in Connecticut.

It saddens me to know that the lion share of our fellow American deaths could have been avoided if we paid attention to the scientists’ recommendation to use common-sense measures, such as wearing mask, early on in the pandemic, instead of listening to misguided politicians who are hell-bent on making this a “political” issue rather than a “public health” issue!

So, for those readers who threaten to leave Connecticut if the state mandates any type of common-sense measures to stem the tide of this heath crisis, I say let’s help them leave the state NOW. We can use the money from the state surplus to buy them a one-way ticket out, so that the rest of us can look forward to a normal life, free of COVID, sooner rather than later!
