Gazebo goes purple for Alzheimer’s awareness
NORWALK — The gazebo at the East Avenue green has been decorated with a splash of color as part of the “Paint the Town Purple” campaign to raise awareness for the Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut Chapter during Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month.
On Monday, volunteers helped prepare the gazebo by placing purple ribbons on the supports and planting purple faux flowers around the structure. The spotlights around the gazebo have also been turned violet.
The gazebo will remain decorated in purple through June 24.
The goal of “Paint the Town Purple” is to increase awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and the free programs and services offered by the Alzheimer’s Association.
“This is the fourth consecutive year that the gazebo has been turned purple in order to increase awareness of this horrific disease and the Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut Chapter thanks and appreciates the support and assistance provided by the First Taxing District Water Department for all these years,” said Mike Davis, chair for the Norwalk Walk to End Alzheimer’s in September.
On Friday, there will be a kick-off event at Ripka’s Beach Cafe at Calf Pasture Beach to bring awareness to the September walk. Walk team registration and fundraising materials will be available.
The Fairfield County Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place Sept. 16 at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk.
The Alzheimer’s Association is the largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer’s research. Its mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
