Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital officials hosted a ceremonial groundbreaking for the future Lozick Cancer Pavilion.

Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital officials, along with Mayfield Heights community leaders, recently hosted a ceremonial groundbreaking for the future Lozick Cancer Pavilion, beginning the construction phase of a 10,600-square-foot addition to the facility’s existing cancer center.

The expansion is being funded by a “significant donation” from the Lozick Family Foundation, officials stated.

The addition will “incorporate a home-like healing environment centered on the patient experience,” similar to the Taussig Cancer Center on Cleveland Clinic’s main campus.

The structure, located at the south end of Hillcrest’s campus, at 6780 Mayfield Road, will focus on improving the experience of patients by implementing patient and caregiver feedback, which was instrumental during the building’s design phase, the clinic confirmed.

A direct connection between the building’s lowerlevel radiation therapy services

and the second-floor oncology spaces will also be created. Infusion treatments will be offered in both private and community rooms.

Donor support will also enable a patient navigator to help guide each patient through their cancer care journey.

The second floor will include dedicated music and art therapy rooms for patients along with other support services.

The new innovative physical spaces will be more patient-friendly and tailored to the specific needs of cancer patients, clinic officials noted.

Design features will include abundant natural light, views of green space, natural elements and specially selected artwork.

To help improve access to the cancer center, there will be a covered entrance leading to a central patient check-in, as well as dedicated valet parking and convenient patient dropoff.

Additional plans include interior renovations of the existing space.

“The Lozick Cancer Pavilion will be transformative in many ways,” said Hillcrest Hospital President Dr. Richard Parker. “This expansion is solely focused

on the patient. Providing world-class care to our patients, and, in turn, our community, is a commitment we proudly make today and for the future.

“This project is important for Cleveland Clinic as we celebrate our centennial year,” Parker added. “It is the first new capital project breaking ground to kick off our second century of caring for life, researching for health and educating those who serve.

“The generosity, partnership and commitment to our patients from donors has significant impact in a project like this and other projects throughout our health system.”

Construction is expected to begin this month, with completion in the summer of 2023.

All hospital and cancer center services will continue to be provided during construction.

“We are grateful to the Lozick Family Foundation for their substantial gift which will benefit patients throughout our community,” said Dr. Vinit Makkar, director of Cleveland Clinic Regional Oncology, East Region.

“The new facility and expansion will provide a warm and inviting space for patients to seek care.”
