Man arrested at power plant after bomb claim

One man has been arrested after authoritie­s say he drove a pickup truck pulling an enclosed trailer to the entrance of the Perry Nuclear Power Plant and when confronted by plant security claimed to have a bomb in the trailer.

Lt. Larry Harpster, the head of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office’s Detective Bureau, reported that at 5:43 p.m., April 7, the North Perry Police Department, assisted by the Perry Village Police Department, was dispatched to the plant at 10 Center Road in North Perry Village regarding a suspicious male refusing to leave the property.

Upon arrival it was found that the male had driven a pickup truck pulling an enclosed trailer to the entrance of the facility and claimed to have a bomb in the trailer, according to a news release.

The Lake County Bomb Squad and the Painesvill­e Branch of the FBI were requested to respond. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau was then requested to assist the FBI on the investigat­ion.

The truck and trailer were subsequent­ly found not to contain any dangerous ordnance after a detailed inspection, the release stated

Michael D. Fogelsong, 33, of Adrian, Mich., has been booked into the Lake County Jail on the charges of making false alarms, a third-degree felony, and aggravated trespass, a firstdegre­e misdemeano­r.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office will be continuing this investigat­ion and additional charges may be forthcomin­g.

The Sheriff’s Office assured the public that “there is no ongoing threat or imminent threat to the Perry Nuclear Power Plant.

“This appears to be an isolated incident.”
