District plans Farewell Open Houses

Riverside School District is in the midst of a restructuring phase that will see several of the district’s schools replaced with newly constructed buildings.

Before the old makes way for the new, former and current students, faculty, and staff as well as members of the community are invited to share in the fond farewells with a series of Farewell Open Houses scheduled at each of the four building which will eventually be replaced.

Not every school within the district is slated to be transferred to a new facility by this time next school year. The Riverside High School campus and LaMuth Middle School will remain.

The district will, however, be consolidating its six elementary schools to four. At the end of this school year elementary schools Hadden, Hale Road, Leroy, and Madison Avenue will be closing their doors for good.

The closure of these historical schools, originally opened between the 1920s and 1930s, will be offset by the opening of a pair of new schools, Riverview and Parkside.

The district’s two other elementary schools, Buckeye and Melridge will remain open.

the soon-to-be-closed buildings. The open houses will feature opportunities to view old memorabilia and historical pictures, according to district notes.

The first open house will be held at Hadden Elementary April 23. Leroy Elementary’s open house will feature the following day, April 24.

Madison Avenue Elementary, which will be replaced at the start of the 2019-2020 school year with the newly constructed Riverview Elementary will hold its farewell open house April 25. Hale Road Elementary’s open house will occur May 1.

Each building will also hold two additional walkthroughs for anyone unable to make the original Community Farewell Open House dates. These followup dates will be announced at a later time, according to the Riverside School District.
