Silver to figure prominently in Dream House
The sparkle of silver is set to be a major element in the 2018 Lake County YMCA Dream House in Mentor.
Silver, which traditionally commemorates a 25th anniversary, will do just that as the Lake County YMCA celebrates a quarter of a century presenting the fundraising project to the community.
Karen Krauss of Karen Krauss Designs in Concord Township, and Kate Weaver of Faux What in Mentor, are co-design coordinators. They met
with the Dream House design team on Jan. 16 to discuss initial plans for the colonial-style home at 5360 Highland Way in the new Lakeshore Highlands development.
“It’s going to be a mix of rustic mixed with bling and sparkle,” Weaver said. “We’re going to have fun with it because it’s the 25th.”
Silver finishes will be used for all metals throughout the house.
Over the years, Krauss, who has worked with the project since its inception and Weaver for the past 20 years, said the venture has evolved in many ways.
“The biggest change is that it used to be a few months planning,” Krauss said. “Now, as soon as we finish one we start the next.“
Weaver noted that designers are also given more creative license.
“It’s really an eclectic mix of everyone’s ideas. It makes it more interesting,” she said.
Designer Halle Chiappone of Charley’s Loft in Mentor said the many new products currently available for window treatments will help with the mix of bling and rustic components.
“There are some great finials and fabrics out there,” she said.
Other design team members are Carol Demore of Charley’s Loft; Debra Metcalf of Metcalf Interiors in Concord Township; Tracy Baker of Design Details in Mentor; Karen Koeth of KSA Design LLC in Concord Township; Karen Hayes and Carolyn Rigo of Karen Hayes Interiors in Willoughby; Gregory Mononen of Gregory Todd Interiors of Mentor; and Kathy Snowbrick of Sheraton Furniture in Willoughby.

It will feature four bedrooms, 3 ½ baths, great room, dining room, office and three-car garage as well as a lower level family room.
Along with donated services by designers, many area businesses partner

This year Store with Style is contributing all custom closets and Quartzco Inc. of Cuyahoga Falls will install approximately 400 square feet of Cambria products.
Other significant donors include Charley’s Loft, Mars Electric of Mentor and Sheraton Furniture.
“This is a wow. This is 25 years,” said Lisa Marti, vice-president of sales and
marketing for Quartzco Inc. “We want to pull out all the bells and whistles.”
