Lucille F. Simmons, 98, of Chardon, formerly of Burton and Chagrin Falls, passed away Monday, August 28, 2017, at the Residence of Chardon Nursing Home.

She was born in Euclid on Feb. 18, 1919, daughter of the late Fred and Elgia Amanda (Smith) Kuhlman.

She was a graduate of Chagrin Falls High School in 1936. After graduation, she worked for Brewster and Church Dept. Store and rose to the level of buy department. er for a new gift

In 1945, she married Howard Simmons, who preceded her in death in 1998. As her family grew more independen­t, Lucy began working for the Cha Sprague grin Falls School System in the cafeteria. After Mrs. retired, Lucy took her place at The Rec Center. Always an active volunteer, she was a book sorter at the Burton Public Library and participat­ed in Scrappers at the Burton Congre Falls, gational Church. She was proud of her roots in Chagrin and her family, including her son Sherriff Red, (George “Red” Simmons) who was Sheriff of Geauga County for 11 years before he passed while still in office. Travel and spending time with her family and friends filled her retirement, as it had her early years.

Two daughters, Karen Kolberg of Chardon and Linda (James) Russell of Newcomers town; her daughter in law Carol Simmons of Burton; five grandchild­ren; eleven great grandchild­ren; and eleven nieces and nephews survive Lucille.

Her parents; her husband Howard; her son Sheriff George “Red” Simmons; two brothers, Edwin Huge and Robert Kuhlman; and stepbrothe­r Clarence Kuhlman preceded her in death.

A Gathering of family and friends will be 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed with a Memorial Celebratio­n of Life at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at Russell-Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 West High St., Middlefiel­d, OH 44062. Burial will follow at Welton Cemetery, Burton, OH.
