A 40-year-old Elyria man is facing a charge of possessing narcotics during a traffic stop.

Marlon Edwards was charged with possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony.

Edwards was a passenger in a car that Elyria police officers pulled over after witnessing it turn without a turn signal, according to an Elyria police report.

The driver was cited and released, the report stated.

When the officers approached Edwards, they noticed him acting nervous while concealing a sock into a black bag, according to the report.

When questioned if there was contraband in the bag, Edwards denied there was any, the report stated.

The officer told Edwards that the bag was going to be searched, due to his furtive movements and for the officer’s safety, according to the report.

A search of the bag turned up two small bags containing 10.4 grams of cocaine and a third containing 4.3 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms, the report stated.

The contents of the bag will be sent to a laboratory for further testing, according to the report.

Edwards denied having the sock in his hand, however, one of the officers witnessed him concealing it, the report noted.

Additional charges may be filed, the report stated.

Police arrested Edwards and transported him to the Lorain County Jail. He was released the next day, according to jail records.

Edwards attended an initial hearing on the charges Aug. 14 in Elyria Municipal Court where a $5,000 bond was ordered.

No information on Edwards’ next court date has been listed yet, records show.
