A local restaurant known for wood-fired pizza and a variety of vintages has fallen victim to the economic effects of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Wood & Wine, 38790 Chester Road in Avon, will close after the weekend’s meals. Restaurant management used social media to publish the notice late March 11.

“Well friends it’s with a heavy heart that we must share this news…” said the notice on Wood & Wine’s Facebook page.

“We tried, we pushed and we tried some more, with the staff never giving up,” the post said. “But this is our last weekend then we shut the doors for one last time.

“We want to thank each and every one of you for all the lasting friendships we have made with so many of you. Let’s go out this weekend on a happy note,” the post said.

The restaurant invited patrons to celebrate the last 11 years and reminisce and laugh and enjoy dinner and drinks.

Wood & Wine will be open 3 to 9 p.m., March 13, with a menu of prime rib, perch, cod, salmon and wood-fired pizza and wings.

“You’ll never get one anywhere else quite like ours,” the restaurant management said.

“We will miss everyone,” the message said. “The pandemic won this battle. But our staff is one in a million and stuck it out til the very end. We appreciate them more than words can express.”

At the restaurant, a note on the door stated as of Dec. 3, 2020, Wood & Wine would reduce operating hours to 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday for dinein, carry-out and delivery through delivery services.

“We regret having to make this decision but we have hope that everyone stays safe and healthy, and one day soon we will return to normal hours of operation,” the notice said.
