Midweek events expected this year
A Main Street Amherst Walkin’ on Wednesdays event series is appearing to be happening this summer downtown.
Main Street Amherst Executive Director Teresa Gilles said during a March 4 general meeting the organization is planning to hold the outdoor events, similarly to last year.
“I believe it’s going to happen this year again, which is a great thing,” Gilles said.
Dates for the event are set as June 9, July 14, Aug.11 and Sept. 8, or the second Wednesday every month from June to September.
“We’re working with the city to see if we can change it up a little bit,” Gilles said. “Stay tuned for more information.
“We want to bring the vendors down on Park Avenue to help all of the businesses.”
She said in speaking with Mayor Mark Costilow, allowing vendors to set up shop those days further down the street and closer to the Amherst Town Hall is a possibility.
“He’s been very open and excited about that,” Gilles said.

The Easter Bunny visits to Amherst also are in the works by Main Street Amherst.
Gilles said while the organization is working on the details and specific date of the Easter Bunny’s visit in early April, Main Street is looking to take on a different approach this year.
The Easter Bunny may be placed in different locations around town, instead of driving through different routes in the city, she said.
This year, eight volunteers are interested in getting involved, which is double what the organization had last year. Depending on a final volunteer count, Main Street may have eight locations for residents to drive by and see the Easter Bunny.
