Patriots’ Gilmore won’t play vs. Bills

Cornerback Stephon Gilmore will miss his f irst regular- season game in three seasons when the New England Patriots visit AFC Eastleadin­g Buffalo on Nov. 1.

Gilmore, who has been dealing with a knee injury, was downgraded to out Oct. 31, along with rookie safety Kyle Dugger (ankle) and offensive lineman Justin Herron (ankle). Herron and receiver Julian Edelman were placed in injured reserve later in the day.

New England also activated defensive back Cody Davis and linebacker Josh Uche to the 53-man roster from IR and promoted defensive lineman Tashawn Bower and receiver Isaiah Zuber to the active roster from the practice squad

Edelman and N’Keal Harry were previously ruled out. Edelman had a surgical procedure on his ailing knee this week and Harry is still recovering from a concussion.

BRONCOS CLEARED » Two Broncos offensive linemen were cleared to play against the Chargers this weekend after 24hour isolations as a precaution following guard Graham Glasgow ’s novel coronaviru­s infection.

Guard Austin Sclottmann and starting right tackle Demar Dotson got the go-ahead when the Broncos (2-4) resumed preparatio­ns for the Chargers (2- 4). Coach Vic Fangio had postponed practice Oct. 30 after Glasgow’s test came back positive.

“These guys have done a good job of wearing their masks and keeping distanced enough to where they weren’t deemed a major risk,” Fangio said of Dotson, Denver’s starting right tackle, and Schlottman­n, a backup guard/center.

BARKLEY HAS SURGERY » New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley has had surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee. Giants coach Joe Judge confirmed the surgery without giving specifics. Judge said Ronnie Barnes, the team’s senior vice president of medical services and head trainer, spoke with the surgeon in Los Angeles and said the procedure seemingly went well.
