The Ariel on Broadway Hotel will open March 6, said Radhika Reddy, the Cleveland businesswoman leading the rebirth of a Lorain landmark.

Reddy and her colleagues will host an official ribboncutting March 2 to re-open the building.

Details on the ceremony are developing due to anticipated high attendance for the event.

Sen. Sherrod Brown will attend and a spokesman said he is looking forward to the event, barring any unforeseen business in the Senate.

Brown could be among potentially many other people from Lorain, Cleveland and Columbus due to the number of government partners and businesses involved in the project.

A public open house likely will be part of the opening to welcome people to see the results of more than a year of interior renovation, Reddy said.

For months, the project has piqued the interest of people in Lorain, neighboring communities and across the region.

Reddy added one of her Cleveland grand openings drew a crowd of 450 — which is 100 more than the capacity of the fourth-floor event center in the Lorain hotel.

Becauseofwinterweather, the Lorain event will be entirely indoors. Cobblestone Hotels will operate the overnight lodging services.

That company is planning a two-day hiring event from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Feb. 5 and 6, Reddy said.

The hotel will open for business March 6, a Friday.

When asked if she is excited for the completion of the remodeling, Reddy laughed and said: “Yes, yes, naturally, finally.”

“I’m still nervous, like, what am I forgetting?” she said.

Opening a hotel involves ordering hundreds of everything, down to soap and shampoo for bathrooms, Reddy said.

“You can’t forget anything,” she said.

The businesses that will be in the hotel are expected to have staggered opening days in the coming weeks.
