Suspect arrested for two shooting incidences

- Staff report

Elyria police have arrested a suspect they believe is linked to the July 11 shooting of a 25-yearold Cleveland man at Bailey’s Bar & Grille, 800 W. River Road, and at 1102 Garden St., according to a news release from Elyria police Capt. Chris Costantino.

Authorities have charged Dejon Boone, 19, of Elyria, with two counts of improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation, discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises and felonious assault, all second-degree felonies, and two counts of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony, stemming from the Garden Street shooting.

Boone also was charged with felonious assault in the Bailey’s Bar incident.

Police arrested Boone during a felony stop at 5:10 p.m. July 12 in an alley on Jefferson alley near Bond Street in Elyria.

Boone, and Adrian Oliver, 18, of Elyria, who was driving the Volkswagen sedan, were both arrested without incident.

Both men were charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motorcycle vehicle and possession of marijuana, a minor misdemeanor, as a result of the stop.

Police found a loaded Glock 30 handgun inside the vehicle’ glove box along with 65 grams of marijuana and two scales, the release said.

Police transported the men to Lorain County Jail.

“This investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to pursue leads on additional suspects involved in these senseless acts of violence,” Costantino said. “Detectives should be commended for their tireless work in identifying and arresting Boone.

“Boone has shown a great propensity toward violence involving firearms; randomly firing aimlessly at his intended targets with utter disregard for the safety of others. The community is a much safer place with him in custody.”

Boone, who is in the Lorain County Jail on a $1.3 million bond, must appear at 2 p.m. July 19 before Elyria Municipal Court Judge Gary C. Bennett.

Oliver, who was released on a $10,150 bond, must appear 2 p.m. July 16 before Bennett.
