The Matt Wilhelm Award goes to the football player of the year for the Morning Journal area.

The Wilhelm watch list is fluid and can change from week to week. In alphabetic­al order:

• Darren Anders, North Olmsted, Jr.: Rushed 14 times for 32 yards, adding 14 yards on one reception, in a 28-0 loss to Amherst. For the season, Anders has 962 yards and 15 touchdowns on 135 carries and 271 yards and three touchdowns on 15 receptions on offense to go with four tackles for a loss, 10.5 sacks, an intercepti­on and two recovered fumbles on defense.

• Nick Denney, Firelands, Sr.: Rushed seven times for 34 yards, adding three receptions for 78 yards and two touchdowns to go with eight tackles and a forced fumble on defense, in a 25-22 loss to Buckeye. For the season, Denney has 612 yards and seven touchdowns on 63 carries, adding 588 yards and nine touchdowns on 24 catches. He also has a kick return for a touchdown, two blocked field goals, a forced fumble and 24 tackles.

• Daylin Dower, Lorain, So.: Rushed 17 times for 63 yards in a 48-19 win over Maple Heights. For the season, Dower has 1,011 yards and 12 touchdowns on 117 carries, adding 98 yards and a touchdown on seven receptions.

• Drew Engle, Clearview, Jr.: Rushed nine times for 107 yards and a touchdown in a 26-16 win over Fairview. For the season, Engle has 1,121 yards and 12 touchdowns on 135 carries.

• Seamus Higley, Midview, Sr.: Was 11-for-29 for 91 yards, a touchdown and an intercepti­on, adding a touchdown and 18 yards on seven carries, in a 41-27 loss to Olmsted Falls. For the season, Higley is 109for-188 for 1,467 yards, 22 touchdowns and five intercepti­ons, adding 188 yards and two touchdowns on 49 carries.

• Seth Hurd, Vermilion, Jr.: Was 11-for-19 for 192 yards and three touchdowns in a 40-28 loss to Huron. For the season, Hurd is 109-for-173 for 1,307 yards, 19 touchdowns and five intercepti­ons, adding 413 yards and five touchdowns on 69 carries and five intercepti­ons (two returned for touchdowns) and 36 tackles on defense.

• Ryan Maloy, Avon, Jr.: Was 20-for-27 for 192 yards, a touchdown and an intercepti­on, adding 85 yards on 11 carries, in a 1914 win over North Ridgeville. For the season, Maloy is 116-for-159 for 1,582 yards, 15 touchdowns and four intercepti­ons, adding 376 yards and five touchdowns on 55 carries.

• Jack Mikolich, Avon Lake, Jr.: Was 12-for-24 for 169 yards, a touchdown and two intercepti­ons, adding 46 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries, in a 28-24 win over Berea-Midpark. For the season, Mikolich is 105-for-216 for 1,272 yards, 10 touchdowns and eight intercepti­ons, adding four touchdowns and 268 yards on 69 carries.

• Chris Mullins, Avon, Sr.: Caught nine passes for 117 yards in a 19-14 win over North Ridgeville. For the season, Mullins has 43 receptions for 813 yards and seven touchdowns.

• Jonah Pfeil, Vermilion, Jr.: Caught six passes for 80 yards, adding six tackles on defense and an 84-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, in a 40-28 loss to Huron. For the season, Pfeil has 53 receptions for 670 yards and nine touchdowns and a kick return for a touchdown, adding two intercepti­ons (one returned for a touchdown), four fumble recoveries and 57 tackles on defense.

• Khennedy Scagliozzo, Amherst, Jr.: Rushed 32 times for 200 yards and two touchdowns in a 28-0 win over North Olmsted. For the season, Scagliozzo has 1,473 yards and 18 touchdowns on 230 carries and three touchdown passes.

• Justin Sturgill, Lorain, Sr.: Was 14-for-21 for 190 yards and three touchdowns, adding six carries for 11 yards and a touchdown, in a 48-19 win over Maple Heights. For the season, Sturgill is 74-for-132 for 1,131 yards, 18 touchdowns and one intercepti­on to go with four passes for twopoint conversion­s, adding 56 carries for 257 yards and two touchdowns. • Deviian Williams, Elyria, Sr.: Caught three passes for 68 yards and a touchdown in a 41-14 loss to Medina. For the season, Williams has 42 catches for 723 yards and seven touchdowns.

• Shomari Williams, North Ridgeville, Sr.: Rushed 31 times for 206 yards and a touchdown in a 19-14 loss to Avon. For the season, Williams has 1,015 yards and eight touchdowns on 170 carries, adding a pick-six, a forced fumble and three tackles for a loss — including 1.5 sacks — on defense.

• Connor Wolfe, Midview, Sr.: Rushed 19 times for 141 yards and two touchdowns in a 41-27 loss to Olmsted Falls. For the season, Wolfe has 1,177 yards and 11 touchdowns on 157 carries, adding 51 yards and a touchdown on six catches.

• Qwanda Woodson, Elyria, Jr.: Had 16 tackles, including a sack, in a 41-4 loss to Medina. For the season, Woodson has 106 tackles, three sacks, a forced fumble, an intercepti­on and a fumble recovered.

• Devan Yarber, Oberlin, Sr.: Was 5-for-14 for 133 yards, two touchdowns and a two-point conversion, adding 31 carries for 265 yards, two touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversion­s, on offense to go with eight tackles and an intercepti­on on defense in a 4027 win over Lutheran West. For the season, Yarber is 30-for-70 for 547 yards, six touchdowns, five intercepti­ons and three passing two-point conversion­s, adding nine touchdowns, seven two-point conversion­s and 1,059 yards on 134 carries.
