A Lorain City Schools administrator accepted a position with the Ohio Department of Education.
According to a news release from Erin Gadd, director of communications and community engagement at Lorain Schools:
On June 15, Executive Director of Student Services Dr. Kim Monachino accepted a position of director of office for exceptional children at the state’s education department.
“It is no surprise to us here that her knowledge has been recognized at the state level,” indicated Lorain Schools Superintendent Dr. Jeff Graham. “We wish her well in her new role.”
The office for exceptional children offers leadership, assistance and oversight for school districts that provide individualized instruction for students with disabilities and for gifted students.
The office also administers state and federal funds, coordinates and administers programs to improve outcomes for students, monitors a statewide complaint resolution system designed to track district and agency compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, and provides technical assistance to districts and educational agencies around issues of compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA).
Since July 2015, Monachino led the student services department in Lorain. She and her team advanced Individualized Education Plan compliance, a Response to Intervention model, cluster grouping for gifted students, and coteaching inclusionary practices. She begins her new role Aug. 1.
Lorain Schools will immediately post the open position of executive director of student services.
