Pregame strategy

-

While the Cavaliers hope to create fireworks on the court during Game 4 on June 9 at Quicken Loans Arena, barring inclement weather, fireworks will definitely be set off, as scheduled, following the Indians game with the White Sox on the same night at Progressive Field.

The postgame fireworks could put the folks standing in the plaza watching on a giant screen television the clash between the Cavaliers and Warriors inside The Q in jeopardy, but to make sure that doesn’t happen, the launch site of the fireworks has been moved.

The fireworks are normally fired from the roof of the east garage from one end to the other. For the June 7 game only, they will be fired off from the eastern portion of the roof only. Some will also be set off from the Progressive Field grounds.

So the fans win all around. The Indians fans who bought tickets with the lure of fireworks won’t get cheated and Cavaliers fans watching the basketball game from Gateway Plaza will get a free fireworks show.

The rest is up to the Cavaliers and Indians. Browns cornerback Joe Haden and Browns safety Jabrill Peppers were in the crowd for Game 3 at The Q on June 7.

Cavs coach Tyronn Lue offered a peek at how he wants to approach the remainder of the series with Golden State in his news conference prior to Game 3. It starts with LeBron James guarding Kevin Durant and still being dominant offensively.

“Yes, he can. That’s why he’s the best player in the world,” Lue said. “He has to do it. K.D.’s guarding him, so the first five or six minutes, just to set the tone I think, of guarding K.D., being physical. And then when we go to our bench, we can bring guys in that we can put on K.D.

“And it’s just not a oneon-one game. We have to understand what our schemes are, who we’re trying to help off of and what we’re trying to do. Guarding Kevin Durant or LeBron James or Steph Curry, any of those guys one-onone, Kyrie, you’re not going to be able to do that. So you have to understand what you’re doing schemewise, and you have to follow the game plan.”

Durant scored 38 points in Game 1 and 33 points in Game 2.
