Shots fired in Lorain, suspect detained
Lorain police arrested a man Dec. 16 who they say was involved in an alleged felonious assault with a weapon.
Captain Thomas Mize said that they received a call about a man showing up to a residence in South Lorain. According to a dispatcher, the call came in at 12:04 p.m. The male was in possession of a weapon, according to the call.
The suspect then residence, Mize said.
While officers were investigating the situation, a call came in about shots fired in the 1700 or 1800 block of Garden Avenue, Mize said. According to a dispatcher, that call came in at 12:14 p.m.
“At the time, there were several of us that were in this Garden Avenue area,” Mize said.
Initial descriptions of the suspect changed three times, he said.
“We subsequently came to the conclusion that the suspect
left
the Lorain Police SWAT team members surround the home of a suspect allegedly involved in an attempted felonious assault Dec. 16. may be in the house at the 600 block of West 13th Street,” Mize said.
Officers knocked twice at the home and didn’t get an answer.
“There was sufficient indications that we observed that, when we were investigating, that he may be in there,” Mize said. “And since there was an incident involving shots fired, we called the SWAT team over to try to determine, one, if he’s in there, or if anyone else is in there.”
Mize would not release the name of the suspect.
While investigating on West 13th Street, a vehicle pulled up where the suspect was dropped off. He surrendered and was detained. Mize said he doesn’t know why it all transpired and why the suspect drove to West 13th Street.
Several shell casings were found on Garden Avenue and the case is under investigation.
“It evolved real fast,” Mize said.
