Tiny travel trailers for a quick getaway

- BY DAVID SYREK CHICAGO TRIBUNE

POLYDROPS KJ-20

The futuristic design of Polydrops’ tiny trailer adds up to a big statement. The KJ-20l comes with four-channel outside security cameras, a solar charging system, full HVAC and maximized wall insulation.

The cozy trailer is lined in pale, pine paneling with a mattress that sleeps two. The headboard has cubbyholes for storage, outfitted with LED lighting, and acts as the control center.

The trailer has a galley-style kitchen that includes a two-burner stove and storage. $13,995, polydrops.com.

Following the tiny house trend, tiny trailers packed with amenities have become the popular way to have a quick, easy — and very chic — road trip vacation. The home away from home concept packs in little luxuries like memory foam mattresses, microwaves and stargazer windows above your bed. Deigns range from the retro curves of Airstream’s aluminum Bambi, to Polydrops futuristic-looking KJ-20 travel trailer complete with gull-wing doors and a pale, wood-paneled interior that would be just as comfortable on the cover of Dwell magazine as it would be at any campsite.

AIRSTREAM BAMBI

Airstream’s 16-foot-by-8-foot Bambi comes standard with a galley kitchen stocked with stainless steel appliances. The bedroom sleeps two and is equipped with a pillow top memory foam mattress, blackout curtains and reading lights.

Other features include a retractable awning for shade, air conditioning and heating, and a JVC stereo with Bluetooth. $49,900, airstream.com/travel-trailers/ bambi

A few of the features that the 13-foot-7-inch TAG comes with are a two-burner stove, microwave, Yeti cooler and deep sink, all in a thoughtfully designed, rearhatch kitchenette (opposite top left).

Other amenities include a screen shade system and a Bluetooth media center. As night falls, you’ll climb into a cozy queen-size bed under large windows for stargazing before drifting off to sleep. $19,700, nucamprv.com
