Middletown crash kills 1, injures 4

MIDDLETOWN — One woman is dead and another in criticial condition after a sport-utility vehicle crossed a lane and colided with a truck, police said.

The accident happened just after 11 p.m. Friday near 485 Washington St., near Illiano’s Restaurant..

Police said Leticia M. Lennon, 38, of Chapin Street, South Windsor, who was driving a 2017 Nissan Rogue was killed in the accident. Her front seat passenger, Cherise L. Sheff, 38, of Windham Street, Hartford, is in critical condition at Hartford Hospital.

Middletown firefighte­rs extracted Sheff from the Rogue.

A preliminar­y investigat­ion determined that Lennon’s vehicle was traveling westbound on Washington Street when it crossed the double yellow lines in the center of the road and collided with a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado that was traveling eastbound in the right travel lane. A portion of the road was closed for four hours following the crash.

The truck was being driven by a 17-year-old who police have not identified. They said Kevin McAuliffe, 54 of Fairlawn Avenue,East Hampton. was in the front passenger seat and another teen was seated in the right rear passenger seat.

All three were taken to Hartford Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries and released.

In addition to police and firefighte­rs, Hunter’s Ambulance and Middlesex Hospital paramedics responded to the scene.

This crash is still under investigat­ion. Witnesses are asked to contact Officer Passacanta­ndo at 860-638-4063.
