Boy with leukemia granted ‘boy cave’ from MakeAWish
EAST HAMPTON — Tenyear old Danny Sullivan is a big movie fanatic and wished for a basement makeover in his new home that would transform the home’s basement into the boy cave of his dreams.
His wish list included a movie theater, snack bar, games, lots of movie posters, toy storage and a crafts room. Danny wanted nothing more than to have a special space where he can escape from all the hospital visits and treatments related to his leukemia and just be a kid.
He dreamed of inviting friends over to play and hang out with them and his family to watch movies in the theater room.
The basement, which up until Thursday evening was hidden from Danny’s view, was revealed for the first time as family, friends and the community celebrated the completion of his special area.

LLC donated his time and materials, along with Bob’s Discount Furniture, which gave furniture, and the Bershaw family donated funds, which made the design and construction possible.
Last year, a 10yearold girl’s hope to travel to Rome and be blessed by Pope Francis was granted by MakeaWish at St. Clements Castle in Portland.
Financial and inkind donations are what allow MakeAWish to grant the wishes of every eligible child in the state, the release said.
MakeAWish Connecti
cut’s mission is to create lifechanging wishes for children with critical illnesses, according to the organization.
“We seek to bring every eligible child’s wish to life because a wish is an integral part of a child’s treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness,” the release said.
Donors, supporters, staff and volunteers across the state grant nearly 250 wishes a year. Since 1986, MakeAWish Connecticut has granted more than 3,000 wishes to local children.
