Yale women’s hockey upsets third-ranked Clarkson

Emma Vlasic scored a pair of goals as the Yale women’s hockey team posted a 5-1 ECAC Hockey upset of third-ranked Clarkson on Saturday at Ingalls Rink in New Haven.

Vlasic opened the scoring midway through the first period, while Lucy Burton and Charlotte Welch added first-period tallies to give the Bulldogs (2-6-0, 2-6-0 ECAC) a commanding 3-0 early lead. Rebecca Vanstone extended the lead with a secondperi­od goal and Vlasic capped the Yale scoring at the 6:25 mark of the third period.

Kristy Pidgeon’s powerplay goal for Clarkson (102-0, 3-1-0 ECAC) in the third period spoiled the shutout for Yale goalkeeper Tera Hoffman, who finished with 39 saves.

Colgate 3, Quinnipiac 3: At Hamden, Abbie Ives finished with a season-high 32 saves as the Bobcats came away with an ECAC Hockey tie.

Kati Tabin had a goal and an assist for Quinnipiac (3-7-3, 3-1-1 ECAC), while Melissa Samoskevic­h and Lexie Adzija tallied goals for the Bobcats.

Jessie Eldridge scored a pair of goals for Colgate (7-5-2, 3-2-1 ECAC), including the equalizer in the third period.

MEN’S HOCKEY

Quinnipiac 5, Colgate 0: At Hamilton, N.Y., Keith Petruzzell­i stopped 21 shots to earn his second career shutout as the Bobcats completed a weekend sweep.

Wyatt Bongiovann­i scored a pair of power-play goals for Quinnipiac (9-2). Craig Martin, Luke Shiplo and Daniel Winslo also scored.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Le Moyne 85, SCSU 75: At New Haven, Luke Beesley finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds, but the Owls were handed their frist NE-10 Conference loss of the season.

Kealan Ives led SCSU (1-3, 1-1 NE10) in scoring with 20 points. Kobi Nwandu led Le Moyne (2-1, 1-1 NE10) with 27 points.

New Haven 87, Adelphi 67: At West Haven, Kessly Felizor had a double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds) as the Chargers won their NE-10 Conference opener.

Joining Felizor in double figures in scoring for UNH (2-0, 1-0 NE10) were Derrick Rowland (16 points), Roy Kane Jr. (16), Kian Dalyrumple (13) and Elijah Bailey (12). Nick Cambio led Adelphi (3-1, 1-1 NE10) with 15 points.

Albertus Magnus 84, WCSU 79: At Danbury, Tyreek Perkins scored a game-high 28 points as the Falcons prevailed in the championsh­ip game of the the Colonial Classic.

Jahmerikah Green-Younger added 17 points for Albertus (3-1). Ronald Jefferson led WCSU (2-2) with 21 points.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

SCSU 65, Le Moyne 63: at New Haven, Kiana Steinauer finished with 21 points and 14 rebounds as the Owls held on for a win in their home opener.

Jessica Fressle added 18 points and Amanda Pfohl finished with 17 points as SCSU improved to 4-0. Le Moyne fell to 1-1.

Adelphi 65, New Haven 59: At West Haven, Alexandria Kerr had 15 points and eight rebounds, but the Chargers dropped an NE-10 decision at home.

Camryn DeBose added 13 points for New Haven (2-1). Julia Strachan led Adelphi (3-2) with 18 points.

Stephen F. Austin 67, Yale 57: At Nacogdoche­s, Texas, Roxy Barahman scored a team-high 26 points, but the Bulldogs saw a seven-point halftime lead disappear in the second half in a loss in the Preseason WNIT consolatio­n round.

Tori Andrew added 11 points for Yale (2-2). Stephen F. Austin improved to 2-1.
