HAMDEN — The Page Turners will perform at Best Video Film and Cultural Center on Friday in the latest acoustic roots music show presented by Chris Wuerth’s GuitartownCT.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20, available in advance at guitartownct.com. Best Video is at 1842 Whitney Ave.

The Page Turners are Carolyn Kendrick and Jake Howard, an award-winning group that became musical friends as students at Berklee College of Music. They began playing together through the Berklee American Roots Program.

The two “grew from goofy friends who loved BBQ and bluegrass into goofy bandmates who write sharp and adept original music, and put new twists on old favorites,” according to a bio on The Page Turners’ website.

“They like to blend their love of bluegrass, whiskeyfueled old-time country music, swing, and fearless song-writing into one allpurpose seasoning of good ole’ fashioned roots music,” it reads.

Since graduating from Berklee, Kendrick and Howard have relocated from Boston to Austin, Texas.

They’ve drawn some high praise along the way.

“The Page Turners harness the best and deepest parts of bluegrass and oldtime sounds as their own unique springboard for some wonderful new music,” respected old-time fiddler Bruce Molsky has said of them. “I love what Carolyn and Jake are doing and can’t wait to hear more!”

Howard and Kendrick won the best duo award at the 2016 Freshgrass Festival. In 2017 they released their self-titled debut album and have been touring constantly since then. Other major festivals they have played included the Grey Fox and Joe Val bluegrass festivals.

According to Wuerth, they entertained a large crowd at their first Best Video concert in January of 2017.
