The next owner of this magnificent seaside residence will be granted the rare opportunity to purchase a piece of Milford’s treasured history.

According to Barbara Lehrer, the property’s listing agent, the beautifully restored home situated at 36 Hawley Avenue was known as the Bonsilene Hotel during its heyday in the 1920’s.

“The history of this property is known throughout New England, as it was a very popular vacation spot with a spectacular vista view location,” Lehrer remarked.

In recent years, the historic structure was completely gutted and remodeled. It now stands as a contemporary three-story home and provides all of the luxuries of today’s modern world.

“The current owners purchased the home as a rehab about eight years ago and customized it to combine the old and the ultra-modern,” Lehrer noted.

Lehrer explained that a visit to the stone basement of the home will reveal updated wiring and plumbing, as well as gas utilities and a state-of-the-art tankless mechanical system.

The resort-like residence features a truly fabulous gourmet kitchen and is accented by only the finest of craftsmanship throughout its 12 oversized rooms. The home is enhanced by dramatic coffered ceilings, detailed windows, five working fireplaces and exquisite Brazilian cherry flooring. There are also several custom-built porches and decks from which to enjoy the tranquil ocean views.

“This home is truly one-of-akind,” Lehrer remarked. “The owners took an exceptional location and designed the perfect product.”

The elegant Colonial style home sits gracefully in the coveted Woodmont section of Milford and boasts stunning views of Long Island Sound from all directions. The desirable setting is further enhanced by the peaceful walking neighborhood that surrounds the home.

“This house has the ambiance of a Hampton home in a beach community, private and serene,” Lehrer commented.

Lehrer went on to explain that being a part of the Hawley Avenue neighborhood comes with membership in a private association, which offers access to nearby beaches and a park with amenities such as tennis and basketball.

“With the best of the beaches, Horseshoe, as it is known, along with the kayaking, canoeing and just relaxing around the open flat beach; living in this home is like being at a resort,” Lehrer noted.

The home also includes a beautiful detached garage and a stone driveway which “easily holds ten vehicles,” Lehrer noted. There is also a richly appointed apartment for out-of-town guests situated over the garage.

According to Lehrer, the structure itself is situated at an appropriate elevation to eliminate flood insurance costs.

Another convenience of the property’s location is the quick commute it offers to local highways, the train station and Milford’s quaint downtown area; with its wealth of unique shopping and dining destinations. Listing Agent:
