Woman shoots neighbor, then self

EAST VINCENT >> Authoritie­s are investigat­ing a shooting incident that sent two people to the hospital.

The Chester County District Attorney’s Office and East Vincent Township Police Department responded to a shooting at Whitehall Apartments, 3795 Schuykill Road, Tuesday morning.

Police say the shooter was a female resident who shot her male neighbor. The shooter then shot herself in the head, according to authoritie­s.

Police were called to a shooting at approximat­ely 6:20 a.m. The victim was exiting his apartment when he was shot multiple times by his neighbor, a female who lives across the hall from the victim, police said.

The victim was struck several times in the leg and back and fled

the building before collapsing on a grassy area to the rear of the building, police said.

The shooter, whom police have not publicly identify as of Tuesday afternoon, then barricaded herself in her apartment and set fire to objects in the bedroom of her apartment and shot herself in the head, according to authoritie­s. The apartment sprinkler system activated and extinguish­ed the flames.

“The East Vincent Police and surroundin­g police department­s responded quickly and profession­ally to this incident, Chester County First Assistant District Attorney Michael Noone stated. “The East Vincent Police and Chester County Detectives are working together on this ongoing investigat­ion.”

Both the victim and the shooter were transporte­d to Paoli Hospital for treatment for gunshot wounds.

The Whitehall Apartments is a veterans apartment community located in East Vincent Township. There are 48 units in the apartment community.

“East Vincent is a very safe township,” East Vincent Police Chief Matt Williams stated. “There is no ongoing threat to the community. The police and other emergency personnel immediatel­y responded to this event to ensure the safety of the community.”
